Background

The Permanent Mission of The Republic of Kenya to the United Nations Human Settlement Program (UN-HABITAT) was established in 1978  with the mandate of performing diplomatic representational and multilateral duties pertaining to human settlement matters on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kenya. The Mission is committed to serve all and promote linkages between the Government of Kenya and the United Nations. Kenya is Host to the United Nations Offices in Nairobi (UNON) and the headquarters of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme(UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

 

 

Our History

The Kenya Permanent Mission to UN-Habitat is one of the two Kenyan Missions based in Nairobi. The other one is the Permanent Mission to UNEP that focuses on Environmental matters.The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) established in 1996, is the United Nations official headquarters in Africa. The only UN station outside the developed world. UNON hosts the global headquarters for two programmes: the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)
